What Makes...Unique?

"The idea of sharing our uniqueness came from a project by Graham Wegner in which he had his students blog about Australia's uniqueness and invited international educators to partner up with his students and give them feedback on their blog posts. Well, I learned more about Australia than I'd ever imagine it would be possible. I guess even if I went there, I wouldn't be able to gather so much about their uniqueness, for students talked about their daily lives, favorite food, programs, TV shows. It was like being part of their reality, getting into their homes to learn about the Aussies.

Ronaldo and I work side by side. So, one day we were chatting and I suggested it for a mini-project with his group. The results, as you'll see here, have been far-reaching, and more and more people are willing to show their places' uniqueness.

Let's make this a unique space for sharing our multicultural perspectives and why we are all special with very diverse historical and cultural backgrounds."

"This idea of talking about "What makes (your city/country) unique" was pitched in by Carla Arena based on some project she had carried out with someone (don't remember who now...) and it's great to see that the online environment allows for these ideas to be spread.

Maybe we could have our students visit each other's videos and leave comments."

"Hello, Webheads.

I like your project "what makes (country) unique?"

Why don´t you open a wiki collecting the different publications so other webheads can add their versions?

Do you like the idea? It is a fantastic material for a lesson /project."

Nelba Quintana

"I'll be doing the Ronaldo's lesson, in this case,  "What makes Sudan a unique country", with my students after some weeks. Adding several versions on one place will be fantastic."

My two Sudanese cents,

Hala

"I also love that project. I think some of us are willing to 'borrow' Ronaldo's idea.  Thanks Ronaldo for sharing."

Hugs,

Evelyn Izquierdo

"I loved Ronaldo's and Carla's What makes Brazil a UNIQUE country? -  got permission earlier this year to reuse the magic recipe - which I happily did and created two Slovene responses (one with each of my current groups).

Looking forward to new productions and interactions and learning more about our world's uniqueness this way. :-)

I enjoyed the videos and think they could have some commercial value to their communities tourism industry. Imagine students creating videos in preparation of the Olympics!

Dear Carla and everyone!
You've started the great project. To have all the countries' uniqueness in one place seems fantastic. I really enjoyed watching wonderful videos by Ronaldo & Carla, Michael Stout, Saša and Evelyn about their wonderful and picturesque countries. They definitely provoke and motivate to make a tour around there. I will try with my students to create one about our country and show the world it's beauty also.
I like the Evelyn's idea of creating the page in here with the map showing the location of the country.
Actually, I'd like to say that you all are so fast in translating beautiful ideas in reality! This is just the Webheads nature.

Sounds like a great idea, thanks! - I have both adults and teens so could get some different views on the same place! What's the best way to do this - take digital photos and simply upload to the wiki with comments - or can Animoto videos be uploaded to here? How can that be done? Or is it just a link to a video? Is student input mainly writing on the subtitles and taking photos?

I would love to have my Spanish students create a video about Maine. Adding my questions to Paddy's........We'd like to participate! How do we begin?
